NOTICE TO ORGANIZATION AND CARRIER REPRESENTATIVES |
The National Mediation Board has revised its standard ballot in order to make the ballot more readable and understandable. The changes are not substantive or procedural. The NMB sent a copy of the proposed ballot for comment to Organization and Carrier representatives on August 23, 1999. No comments were received. The revised ballot, a sample of which is attached, will be effective November 1, 1999.

NOTICE OF ELECTION UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD **THIS IS AN OFFICIAL NOTICE. IT MUST NOT BE TAMPERED WITH OR DEFACED BY ANY PERSON.** R-[Case #] An election is being conducted under the Railway Labor Act for the craft or class of: [CRAFT/CLASS OF EMPLOYEES] of [NAME OF CARRIER] Sought to be represented by: [NAME OF ORGANIZATION] and presently not represented. ____________________________________ Under the Railway Labor Act, a majority of the craft or class of employees has the right to determine their representative. The Act also states that elections shall be free from interference, influence or coercion. It is unlawful for a carrier to interfere with the organization of its employees. Violations should be reported immediately to the NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD, Washington, DC 20572 (Tel.: 202-692-5000). ____________________________________ |
INSTRUCTIONS REQUESTS FOR DUPLICATE BALLOTS: Ballots will be mailed on [Date of Ballot Mailing]. If you do not receive a ballot by [Date one week after mailing date], you may contact the NMB to request a duplicate ballot. Your request must be in writing and signed by you. It must be in an individual envelope. No group requests are accepted. Mail the request to: National Mediation Board, Rep. & Legal Dept., Washington, DC 20572. No request will be accepted after [Date One Week Before Count]. INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAIL BALLOT: 1) Mark an AX@ in the square of your choice and tear off the Secret Ballot at the perforation. DO NOT place an AX@ or other mark in more than one square. DO NOT sign your name or place any other mark which identifies you on the ballot or it will not be counted. Mark and mail your ballot yourself. 2) Place the ballot in the enclosed pre-paid return envelope. 3) On the back of the envelope PRINT your name on the first line where indicated, and SIGN your name on the second line. If you do not fill in this information, your ballot will not be opened and counted. Only NMB rep- resentatives are allowed to handle and count the ballots. YOUR VOTE WILL REMAIN SECRET. 4) Deposit the envelope in the U.S. Mail. Your ballot must be received at the NMB by [Time of Count], Eastern Time, on [Date of Count], the day of the count, to be opened and counted at the NMB=s offices in Washington, DC. |
