Re: Piedmont/AFA Tentative Agreement

Washington, D.C. -- The National Mediation Board is pleased to announce that Piedmont Airlines and the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) reached a tentative agreement late last evening. The agreement is subject to ratification by the AFA membership.

The most recent round of mediation began on Wednesday, September 19, 2001. After two days of talks, led by Mediator Fred Leif, Senior Mediators Larry Gibbons and Patricia Sims, and Board Chairman Francis Duggan, the parties reached an agreement that averts potential self-help actions. Piedmont and the AFA were in an extended cooling off period that would have ended at midnight Saturday, September 23, 2001.
