RE: Continental Airlines, Inc. - Flight Attendants Contract Negotiations

The National Mediation Board (NMB) announced today that the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM&AW) and Continental Airlines, Inc. commenced negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement covering approximately 8,500 Continental flight attendants. Representatives of the flight attendants, the IAM&AW and Continental management met with NMB facilitators for three days this week. The Board assisted almost forty participants in concluding an agreement setting out the ground rules for their negotiations. The negotiations schedule in the Ground Rules provides for continuous meetings each week, with a target date for completion of the new agreement as close to the amendable date of the current agreement as possible. The current agreement becomes amendable December 24, 1999.
