August 10, 2001 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD Contact: Daniel Rainey, 202-692-5050 Re: Mediated Talks between the IAM and United Airlines to Resume August 21 Mediation between the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and United Airlines involving Mechanics and Related employees will resume on Tuesday, August 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the NMB's offices. The Board anticipates continuous meetings until this matter is resolved. Mediation between the IAM and United Airlines had been delayed pending resolution of the representation investigation involving United, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), and the IAM. Yesterday, the Board issued a decision dismissing AMFA's representation application because of an insufficient showing of interest. United Airlines is the nations' second largest airline, operating more than 2,330 daily flights on a route network which spans the globe. The airline serves 139 destinations in 26 countries and two US territories. The IAM&AW represents more than 15,000 United employees working in the mechanic and related job classifications. |
