FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD
Re: Trans States Airlines - ALPA Mediated Agreement
NMB Member Francis J. Duggan confirmed that a new four-year agreement reached in mediation on Friday, July 28, 2000 between Trans States Airlines and its pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), was subsequently given final approval by the pilots ratification process. The negotiating committees for the union and the carrier had been meeting in Washington, D.C. since Wednesday of last week under the supervision of Member Duggan with the assistance of Mediator Rich Frey.
The pilots were legally able to strike under the Railway Labor Act since May 27, which marked the end of the mandatory 30-day cooling off period. The first tentative agreement reached on May 26 had been rejected by the pilots.
The carrier is based in St. Louis, Missouri and operates regional feeder service to 40 cities in the Midwest and East Coast under agreements with Trans World Airlines and Delta Airlines.
