RE: NORTHWEST AIRLINES

The National Mediation Board announced today talks will resume between Northwest Airlines and the Air Line Pilots Association. Board Member Magdalena Jacobsen and Mediator Jack Kane who are overseeing the mediation said a meeting schedule is now being worked out by the parties. The Board urged both parties to resume intense bargaining with the goal of reaching a settlement without an interruption of service. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and Northwest Airlines reached a tentative agreement earlier this week after a series of intense bargaining sessions under the auspices of the Board. The Board anticipates that the Air Line Pilots Association and Northwest Airlines representatives will bring a similar commitment to reach a settlement at the bargaining table.
