NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD

RE: NORTHWEST AIRLINES

[The National Mediation Board sent the following communication to the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM&AW), and Northwest Airlines concerning allegations of election interference filed by the IAM&AW following the tally of ballots cast in the subject NMB-conducted representation election.]

The Board projected that it would have a decision in the above matter by mid May 1999. This matter is currently pending before the Board in the final stages of drafting and revision. Unfortunately, other pressing mediation matters have required the Board's constant attention for the last 30 days and made it impossible for the Board to issue its final decision before the end of May.

The Board will issue the decision on June 1, 1999, after the Memorial Day Holiday. The Board will simultaneously FAX the decision to all parties on that date. While it is unusual for the Board to announce in advance the date on which a decision will issue, the Board believes it will be helpful to all concerned to know the date of the decision.

The Board respectfully requests that all parties act responsibly regarding this matter. Thank you for your cooperation.
