Re: the NMB Posts Arbitrator Contact List and Resumés on NMB Website

Washington, D.C.-- Responding to the requests of railroad and airline carrier and union representatives, the National Mediation Board initiated a comprehensive project to post NMB's Roster of Arbitrators on the NMB website, including a Contact List and all their Resumes. The NMB is pleased to announce this has been accomplished and information is available in the Arbitration section of the NMB website (www.nmb.gov). Call 202-692-5055 if you have any question regarding the list or resumés.

Pursuant to the Railway Labor Act, employee grievances arising under the terms of collective bargaining agreements (i.e., minor disputes) are subject to compulsory arbitration. Effective arbitration processes are therefore necessary to resolve such disputes. These processes include Public Law Boards, Special Boards of Adjustment, and the National Railroad Adjustment Board. The NMB certifies appointments of arbitrators to serve as neutrals on these labor/management boards in the railroad industry, and is also frequently asked to furnish panels of arbitrators from which the airline parties select a neutral for airline System Boards of Adjustment. For this purpose, the NMB maintains a Roster of Arbitrators.

Arbitrators seeking to be admitted to NMB's Roster of Arbitrators must be eligible under the "Uniform Guidelines for Placement on NMB's Roster of Arbitrators". The "Guidelines" and associated Application Form are also available in the Arbitration section of the NMB web site.
