Representation At the NMB, a Respesentation case is a situation on an airline or railroad where employees in a specific, carrier-wide workgroup (craft or class) seek to organize for the purpose of collectively bargaining with their employer regarding matters of wages, benefits and working conditions. Basically, carrier and labor officials participate in the investigation phase of cases and eligible employees vote.

Mediation & ADR At the NMB, Mediation is a type of dispute resolution where a neutral mediator facilitates agreement between the parties to a collective baragining dispute, as opposed to imposing a settlement on the parties via arbitration. ADR is the facilitation of interest-based or mutual-interest negotiations and greivance mediation. Labor and carrier officials are the primary participants in Mediation, while individual employees are represented by their labor representatives.

Arbitration At the NMB, Arbitration is a type of dispute resolution where an arbitrator renders a decision (award) primarily to resolve employee grievances against the employer. Labor and carrier officials are the primary participants in Arbitration, while individual employees are represented by their labor representatives and participate according to the carrier/union collective bargaining agreement.
